This is the third and final of the “Make A Difference Series”.
Defining your own brand is hugely important particularly now when there is so much competition both internally and externally. Personal branding is about differentiation. It will help you differentiate yourself from everyone else who has your job title or business type.
You need to define what your own brand is, communicate it and then exude it. This is your reputation. It may sound very easy, but it is actually quite a challenge and requires investment, self-awareness and action to figure it out.
Being able to define your brand puts you in control of your life and career by understanding who you are, what is important to you, your values, passions and goals.
Personal branding enhances your self-awareness. When you go through a personal branding process you develop an incredible self-awareness about what makes you unique, valuable and powerful. It helps optimize your strengths. It helps you clarify and reach your goals, therefore, you are more likely to achieve your ambitions. It helps you create visibility and presence.
Once you know what is unique and compelling about you, you can use that information to create visibility and presence to those people who can help you achieve your goals.
Some things for you to consider:
1) What is it like having a relationship/interacting with you?
2) What are the five things that people believe you stand for and that you represent?
3) How do you perceive yourself?
4) What are the 5 attributes that you want people to think about you?
Compare your answers with what you want your brand to be. Are they aligned? If there is a discrepancy, then there is work to be done.
